On @Tumblr: Why is the word “problematic” so problematic?

I spend a lot of time on Tumblr. Some would probably say too much time, but that’s for another post (Nah not really). Right now I’d like to briefly talk about the word problematic and why it has become problematic.

If you use Tumblr, you will more than likely know what I’m talking about here; myriads of posts mention this word (most of them out of context, I might add) and like everything else in the social media circus, it becomes over-used, abused and completely and utterly annoying to read. The true meaning of this word is now lost forever on Tumblr. Now it has become just another word to make a post seem more interesting.

Well, if you’re doing this thinking you’re smart for using a word that everyone else does,  you’re very wrong. If nothing else, it only proves how unimaginative bloggers have become, how they all line up behind each other waiting for the next “cool” word to pop up out of nowhere to misuse on their blog posts.

But wait, isn’t that what I’m doing now? Maybe… possibly but probably not. I’m not gonna harp on about it but it’s annoying to see that words have turned into “badges” for all teh cool kids to play with.

Nuff’ said.
