On @Tumblr – MAP and NOMAP and why you should avoid them

I don’t really like handing out advice mostly because I’m not an authority on any one particular thing and therefore it’s really my opinion more than anything. But when I do talk about serious stuff like this, I make an effort to get my point of view across without mucking around. I dislike mucking around, ya know?

So this topic is probably one of the most controversial you’ll ever see on this blog. And I’m blogging about it because I feel obliged to put the word out there because it’s important.

If you don’t frequent Tumblr, you may not be aware of these “tags”, but they’re currently becoming a “thing” on social media and of course, me being me, I had to know why. The words “MAP” and “NOMAP” refer to “Minor-Attracted Person” as in an adult that is sexually attracted to minors, and “Non-offending Minor Attracted Person” which is apparently, a category for paedophiles who have yet to “offend” I guess? I’m not entirely sure because it’s my first time seeing these words anywhere let alone on Tumblr.

It makes me feel very naieve learning about these things. Clearly, my social circles are a lot smaller than I thought or maybe I just choose to stay inside my safe “star wars” bubble and avoid darker sides of the internet and social media. I just can’t get my head around why someone would want to tell the entire world that they are abusers and rapists of children. Isn’t that something you’d like to you know, keep under your hat? Why would you want anyone to know that? Most people keep their darker sides hidden for a reason, I guess these people just dont give af like, at all.

If you’re like me, and you like the world to be rosy-coloured and bright, you’ll be better off knowing about these things if only to avoid them. I think that part of the whole “ban” on Tumblr that went down recently was somehow tied in with star wars bloggers that were either writing fanfic or supporting fanfic content about adult and minor sexual relationships. I don’t know the facts so I’m not confirming anything, that’s just what I read on Tumblr via various blog posts. Either way, it seems I have two new tags to add to my blocked tag list.
