Be prepared because my melancholia knows no bounds tonight. And what better way to share my feelings than with Star Wars? 🤗

“Anakin.” Obi-Wan’s voice had gone soft, and his hand was warm on Anakin’s arm. “There is no other Jedi I would rather have at my side right now. No other man.”

Anakin turned, and found within Obi-Wan’s eyes a depth of feeling he had only rarely glimpsed in all their years together, and the pure, uncomplicated love that rose up within him then felt like a promise from the Force itself.

“I… I wouldn’t have it any other way, Master.”

Can we talk about how beautiful this is please?

I cannot tell you how beautiful this line is. I’ve seen all the posts on social media talking about the “love” Anakin and Obi-Wan shared but let’s put all of that to the side for now (sorry, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion but this is mine). There are many things I could say about this, not to mention the blatant hypocrisy behind it. Jedi are not allowed to love – they are not allowed attachments. How can someone feel this kind of brotherly love for another man and not be attached? Is that even possible? I say that would be almost impossible for anyone to do, even a Jedi. And yet, here it is.

I know it’s not meant to be sexual in any way, but social media has this weird way of twisting every normal relationship between two people of the same sex and turning it into something kinky and sexual. I usually either block it if it’s really NSFW stuff, or I scroll past it when it’s on my dash or in my feed. I get why people like it, and I get why fan fiction writers enjoy it, but I don’t think that’s how George Lucas intended it to be. And since I seem to be more of a purist when it comes to this kind of thing, I guess you could call me “old fashioned” when it comes to Star Wars relationships. That said, in the real world, I think love is love no matter who shares it (or what, in the case of Star Wars or any other fictional universe). If you love someone, you love them, that is all. But love for Anakin, at least in this novelisation, was as pure as a promise from the force itself – that’s just so damn beautiful. I’m blown away.
