Star Wars is Poetry: Star Wars A New Hope by Ryder Windham

I found this book along with the doodle book that came with it in a random store near their book section. I don’t know if this has even been on sale anywhere else – and I managed to find it on Amazon which I was really happy about but it’s sold as a separate book by the same author.

Star Wars: A New Hope Junior Novel Paperback – May 4, 2017

If you’re a fan of Star Wars literature (as I am), whatever you do, don’t dismiss or overlook any of the Junior novelizations. My first thought about junior novelizations was probably the same as most adult readers and that is to avoid them. I (was happy to find) that I was very wrong about that. Some of the novelizations are so well-written and are so worth the time.
My reason for this post was for this excerpt from the book that I’d like to share with you which I’ve copied from the novel:

Before Vader had been knocked out of the trench, he’d recognised the Corellian freighter as the same ship that had delivered Ben Kenobi to the Death Star, reportedly from Tatooine. Vader wondered why Kenobi had been on Tatooine, and how long he’d been there.

Then Vader thought of the last X-wing pilot in the trench. He was strong with the Force.

Vader wouldnt rest until he learned the truth (of who that pilot was).

You may or may not know how Darth Vader found that truth and it was via infamous Bounty Hunter Boba Fett:

This is one of the most significant events to happen from the Original Trilogy. If you’ve seen the prequel movies, you’ll know that when Anakin became Vader, he knew nothing of what happened to Padme after his ill-fated duel with Obi-Wan on Mustafar. And while Vader was very strong in the Force, it’s clearly evident that he did not know of Luke’s existence until this point. How amazing it would have been to have known Vader’s emotions at that moment. The culmination of all of his hard work killing and hunting down all of the Jedi after the execution of order 66 by Darth Sidious had basically all been for nothing. He had a son, and his son was to become the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy. How proud and terrified he would have been all at once.

I also felt quite inspired after reading and then writing about this so I animated the cover art as well 🙂

Here’s the cover art:

And because I felt like it, here’s my animation of the same cover:
