What Is Star Wars Project Luminous and What Does It Mean for Star Wars?

Today was a good day for Star Wars. We had some great concept artwork and of course, a nice video clip that talks about “Project Luminous” aka “Star Wars The High Republic”. If you’re scratching your head and wondering what I’m going on about, keep reading.

What I’ve managed to take away from this information is that The High Republic is set about 200 years before the prequel trilogy, and that means way before the name “Skywalker” even became a thing.

What does this mean for the Star Wars franchise?

I see this as both positive and negative for the franchise. It’s positive because I am happy to see the Star Wars franchise growing and expanding. But it’s not so great for the die-hard Skywalker fans like me. It means we are saying goodbye to everything Skywalker, and it is a feeling of both sadness and finality.

But I’m willing to keep looking on the bright side because I don’t want to be the type of fan that doesn’t want to grow with the franchise. I don’t want to be the fan that can’t appreciate anything new.

Is Star Wars The High Republic a movie franchise?

So while this isn’t a new movie franchise (at least, not yet), it’s still pretty big news in terms of the books, the storytelling and the expansion of the Star Wars universe. It means that a lot of the best Star Wars writers will be lending all they know to this new and exciting Star Wars era.

The video clip provides some background information on who some of the writers are that will be contributing to the project, and a nice little tidbit on where this new era could be taking the Star Wars fandom.

If you want to check out the video clip, it’s here on YouTube:
