Darkside Creative’s Logo Evolution

Your brand is everything.

They say that the first thing that people notice about you is your attitude. When it comes to online presence, what do you think your followers and potential followers think of your blog? What is the first thing they see?

The first thing they should see is a representation of who you are, whether that be your poetry, your avatar or your latest selfie. It is an extension of yourself and therefore, it needs to be something to remember, something meaningful.

This is an old web banner I used to use way back when:

I’ve gone through quite a few different logo/branding images since I’ve been on WordPress. I designed these logo’s myself, so they may be unprofessional looking especially the earlier logo designs. I thought it would be neat to feature a history of logos created for this blog.

While I’ve only had a few logo’s, I have created other images for the blog over the years which I eventually stopped using. But I’ve been thinking about brand recently, and I want to do something that I’ve seen other bloggers do, but I wasn’t sure if it would work for me.

Here’s the original Twitter banner I used to use which eventually became my brand logo everywhere online:

On Medium, a CTA or “Call to Action” is essential. It’s an easy way to get your readers reading more of your work or clicking on your homepage link or reading your bio. A Call to Action can be anything as long as it’s an extension of who you are.

What people want most in the world is to connect to someone and if they’re reading your article or your blog post, they’re already halfway there. So why not leave them with something extra, so they keep reading your work or revisiting your website.

I am going to think about what I want to do for this blog. But in the meantime, I wanted to showcase my new logo. I made it a few weeks ago, and the more I see it, the more I actually like it. I don’t always like what I create, I am sure most creative people are the same! But I am okay with this image representing who I am online:

The font is “Star Warsy” but not the exact same font used by George Lucas’ multiple franchises (I don’t want to go to jail!) I really liked the free geometric shapes I picked up from a resource website online some time ago so I decided to use it in this design. And the background is also a free “Space” background I’ve had for a while. I simply combined them all in Photoshop and voila!

So what does your “brand” say about you? Do you have a logo or avatar image that you use to represent you online? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to see them!

And as always, be safe, my friends and keep creating!
