The Best Star Wars Quote Ever!

If you could think of one Star Wars quote that stands out above all others, which one is it? And why does this quote have meaning for you?

There are just so many great Star Wars quotes. And to think of only one as the best is difficult for me. So I imagine it’s the same for you.

If I had to choose only one for the sake of this post, it would have to be:

Do. Or do not. There is no try.
Via Giphy

The reason I find this quote so meaningful (like many of the Star Wars quotes from Yoda), is that you can easily apply this quote to everyday life. Even though this quote comes from a fictional character in a fictional universe, I find relevancy to real-life situations.

It also reminds me a lot of a quote from another one of my favourite movies, The Karate Kid, where Mr Miyagi is explaining to Daniel the importance of commitment to something and to avoid doubt at all costs.

Therefore, “Do. Or do not. There is no try” for me is really a daily mantra. To try is not enough. You either give it everything you’ve got, or do nothing at all but commit to one.

It almost seems too easy to apply a quote to a hard situation, but Yoda really knows best! Or maybe that should be George Lucas.

I’d love to hear about your favourite quotes, and why they have meaning for you.

  1. Ummmmm the answer is clearly “My Lord, the fleet has moved out of lightspeed. Com Scan has detected an energy field protecting an area of the sixth planet of the Hoth System. The field is strong enough to deflect any bombardment.”

The fun thing about SW is there are so many good quotes. Honestly, I couldn’t possibly pick just one. Instead, I will offer this fun little anecdote: a friend and I used to play the “Star Wars Quote Challenge” where we would give each other a quote and the context it had to be used. For example, he had to use “You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy” at the school he worked in (I think he used it in the lunch room). On the other hand, he made ME use the Veers quote about the Com Scan in a School District administration office I was working in.

    1. Lol! Your quote is so elaborate 🙂 I guess I like simple and straightforward for my quotes. The reason why I chose Yoda because he says things without coming off as fake, you know what I mean? I couldn’t imagine Yoda being any different and his words really do inspire me. Darth Vader is probably my second best quote master. He has some awesome one-liners that just can’t be beaten such as “Your lack of faith is disturbing”… his lines were just so great.

So did you actually use the Veers quote? That is hilarious 🙂

      1. So I believe I ended up using it in a meeting with my boss and the Superintendent of the district. I can’t recall the exact context I used it in but I remember the conference room and where we were all sitting. I also remember my boss smirking when I did it because she knew about the quote challenge.

      2. Hahah that’s too cool 🙂 Other than using star wars quotes amongst my friends who already know I’m a star wars nerd, I have never used a star wars quote outside of that. Maybe I should try it at Starbucks or something and when they hand me my coffee, I’ll say “May the force be with you” lol

  2. I remember in 12th grade (I think) English class, we had an assignment where we had to write about a meaningful quote and I chose the Yoda “do or do not” quote. I also have a key chain that says it!

    1. That’s so cool that you got to use it in an assignment. What grade did you get? Yeah, Yoda is definitely a special character, there’s no doubt about it. George is just so talented which is why I couldn’t understand the fans hating on him for releasing the prequels. I stand firmly by my choice of Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side as one of the most tragic story arcs in the entire Star Wars universe, canon or not 🙂

      1. I don’t remember what grade I got… haha that was a good few years ago! But I always loved my English classes.
I agree–I love all the Star Wars movies, even the sequels, but especially the prequels. I think Ep. 3 is one of the best movies of all time, Star Wars or otherwise.

    1. Haha that’s awesome. And yeah, I like that one, too 🙂 Obi-Wan Kenobi is definitely one of my favourite characters from the original trilogy 🙂

So was meaning to ask you, did you find out about going back to work at all?

      1. I was told not yet by my boss different message than the prime minister. Thank you for asking. Hopefully back soon. Just longing for a bit of normality.

      2. I totally understand. We’ve started slowing transitioning to level two, not sure how that will pan out but I see everyone around the world is having to change with the times. Normality sounds pretty good 🙂

  3. I’ve used things like “The door is locked; move on to the next one” in daily life for sure! But I think the quote that is the deepest to me is Obi-Wan’s: “Luke, you’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.” That whole conversation is about how the world is not black and white, but shades of grey. It helps me keep perspective.

    1. Hey Mei-Mei! And yeah, I think quite a few of the more well-known quotes are easily converted into things we can say in real life. Well, maybe “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” won’t work now but in 50 years it might lol 🙂
