The Mandalorian “Spin Off” Series in the Works at Disney Plus

After reading Deadline’s interesting update on The Mandalorian, it seems that the pre-production for the “spin-off” series has been active for months.

Here’s an excerpt from their article:

While not officially greenlit, a third season of the hit Star Wars series has been in pre-production for months, with creator, director and executive producer Jon Favreau publicly stating that he hoped to start filming by end of 2020. That may be the case, with some sources indicating that production would be starting as soon as next week (or in late November/early December), while others point to spring or even fall 2021.

The confusion stems from the level of secrecy in the Lucasfilm camp. But persistent chatter could explain the discrepancy — that another Mandalorian-related project/spinoff, I hear possibly a Boba Fett miniseries, would film first, starting next week or later this month, with The Mandalorian Season 3 production coming after that.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian was recently listed in Production Weekly with the working title Buccaneer, sparking a guessing game among fans what that moniker may entail. Per usual, Lucasfilm and Disney+ are keeping mum on details about the new season, including casting.

I’m not sure how I feel about a spin-off series but any star wars is good star wars. If it’s just about Boba Fett – I am very much for it because Temuera Morrison will be so great as Boba Fett (and was great as Jango before that).

What do you think about this being a possibility? Do you think they should focus on another character and not Boba Fett? What do you think of the tv series in general? Too many spin-offs or not enough?

Let me know in the comments friends – stay safe out there and I’ll see you in tomorrow’s post!

  1. Hi Julie, I think a Boba Fett spinoff would be a good idea and would fill in the blanks left after ROTJ, rather than leaving it to a comic/graphic novel to explain the gaps in the lore (there is a saying that it is better to show than tell events that happen in a story) . Plus it would give Boba a few more lines of dialogue :D! It might also make my “MandaLawrian” Boba Fettt version coloured saber more popular 🙂

    1. Ooooh you made one for Boba Fett? Send me the link so I can point to it from my blog 😀 That’d be awesome! And yeah, I really like Boba Fett because of the fact that there is so little known about him even if you include the comics (which I really don’t – I stick to the cinematic universe as much as I can otherwise it just gets so confusing). I am so hyped – I haven’t seen the next episode of the Mandalorian yet so I am keen to watch it lol 🙂

      1. Hi again, I haven’t seen any of the Mandalorian yet but I seem to have inspired one of the big custom saber manufacturers as they have released a new Mando hilt to buy and the owner of the comapny has said he wished he’d created a “Jet pack nozzle shaped pommel” but he might add one to a version two of he hilt. Funny that, my saber jsut happens to have a jet pack nozzle pommel part…hmm! Anyway you can see my “Boba Legend” hilt here: https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2019/11/30/boba-legend-saber-the-man-with-five-lines/

      2. LOL maybe you should consider making a patreon account so that you can only showcase your creations to people who will pay a small fee to see them – you might stop people from stealing all of your awesome design ideas that way 😀 Something to consider anyway 🙂 And thank you for the link!

  2. I’m on board for any Star Wars show. I wouldn’t mind a Boba show, but I’m more interested right now in getting to the Kenobi show, and the Cassian Andor show that was talked about a while ago. There’s so much going on right now in the world of Star Wars (which is awesome!) but I don’t want to get overwhelmed, lol.

    1. Yeah I tend to do that too, I get so caught up in everything lol ah well, that’s how we enjoy ourselves so it’s all good – plus it’s a lovely way of escaping some of the not so nice realities of our time such as COVID and for some people, the voting drama going on

    1. Oh yes me too 🙂 I like The Mandalorian a whole lot more than some of the last trilogy movies to be honest – it seems so much more cohesive as a story than the last trilogy. I am also really excited for Boba Fett! 🙂

      1. I think Disney are taking a huge step back from the cinematic universe (not sure if that includes tv or not) but from the film making at least. After the wound in the fandom caused by the sequel trilogy (the one thing I know for certain is that split the fandom in a huge way), Disney need to recoup before they subject the fandom to more of the same. I doubt the High Republic will do what the original trilogy did for the fandom so as far as I can tell, streaming tv shows are all they have at this point until they decide on who is going to be doing what on the movie side of things 🙂
