Who Could Portray Thrawn in The Mandalorian?

After the last EPIC episode of The Mandalorian, the Star Wars fandom is buzzing with excitement and awe at how amazing it was. This is mostly because it brought to life (finally) one of the most beloved Star Wars franchise characters in Ahsoka Tano played masterfully by actress Rosario Dawson. And it also gave fans some interesting possible plot theories to discuss namely will they bring Thrawn to live action. And WHO will be the Jedi that answers Grogu’s call through the force when he gets to Tython?

So I have also been debating this in my head and thought it would be fun to open up to my readers for their opinions on these two questions. As for who could play Thrawn, there is a list of actors with the skill and the look to play Thrawn. Benedict Cumberbatch is only one but I’ve seen others such as:

Michael Fassbender who is an extremely talented actor and could totally pull off Thrawn:

And Lars Mikklesen who just happens to be the voice actor for Thrawn has been circulating as a possibility (but not sure if he is an actor as well)

And finally who will be the Jedi that comes to Grogu on Tython? This is by far my favourite choice (obviously because I love Luke Skywalker) and recreated by one of my favourite digital artist’s Boss Logic:

Fans are serious about actor Sebastian Stan taking up the role of a young Luke Skywalker but that is all just fanfare and has been for years. Other Jedi that are being discussed via social media:

Ezra Bridger (because it ties in nicely with the Rebels time line and Thrawn story and also Ahsoka and Sabine’s story)

How exciting is all of this for us Star Wars fans? It’s amazing to see Twitter and other social media discussions lighting up with wonderful and interesting debate. It’s nice to see the fandom finally moving beyond (some of) the toxicity of the past and looking ahead to the amazing future Star Wars has for its fans.

  1. Hi Julie, I thought about this a while ago when I built my Thrawn inspired saber called “Tactician” and I have a suggestion….Christopher Meloni from Law and Order. He can act, has a presence though I’m not sure what he is up to at the moment.

  2. Well, I love both Cumberbatch and Fassbender, they could both pull of Thrawn beautifully. As for the Jedi, I’d love to see Luke, but I think it’s a long shot. Ezra would be great, he’d be a grown man by now. But Obi-Wan is dead at this point, do you mean his Force ghost? Can’t wait to see how all this plays out!

You just brought up an interesting point it could also be Anakin as a force ghost too – I mean if Grogu is reaching out through the force that means anyone who is one with the force could respond… I didn’t even think of that. I guess that is why some people on Twitter were saying Anakin lol I completely forgot about him. But yeah I said Obi-Wan because of his relationship with Ahsoka. I guess I was thinking of it as a linked thing. I reckon Ezra could be a possibility too but literally anyone if they’re using the force! It’s going to be so good going forward and I can’t wait! 😀

      10. Lol thankfully, no and I hope we don’t although him going to the dark side would be an interesting way for a character as popular as Gorgu to progress. What a shock that would be to the fandom lol

  3. Hello Julie and Tina, I don’t believe that Sith can manifest as Force Ghosts so I think you are safe…but I reckon it’s gonna be one of these two Jedi that show up…

    Just kidding, I haven’t been approached by Disney……yet 😀 !

    1. LOL thanks FT – I think Sith do have a method that does something similar where they can appear as ghosts. I think they mention it somewhere in Wookiepedia I remember reading about Darth Andeddu and a couple of other dark lords managing to pull it off but not sure if it’s the same ability as what the Jedi have. I haven’t read enough about it to be honest 🙂

Hi there, I think the Sith have the ability to appear as apparitions for a short time but they are bound to a certain object or location whereas a Lightside Force Ghost has the ability to roam and manifest freely. There are numerous stories of Sith haunting items such as helmets and sabers but they are stuck in those objects until someone handles them allowing the Sith ghost to transfer their essence and inhabit the unlucky person touching said object.
        In season 6 of The Clone Wars cartoon, there is the story following Yoda where he meets with Darth Bane but Yoda sees through Bane and doesn’t fall for the tricks Bane attempts.

      2. Yeah I read that they can possess others just like you hear about actual ghosts and possession which is scary stuff. And of course, holocrons as well I think. Either way, its pretty powerful juju lol 🙂
