The High Republic – Details of the First Three Books Revealed

The first three ARC’s (advance reader copy) of The High Republic books have now been sent to outlets and media to review. There are three books in The High Republic arc so far;

Light of the Jedi which has been seen pretty much everywhere and is the one most fans are aware of featuring the new Jedi Avar Kriss:

Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi

Test of Courage is book II which looks like it might be focused a little more on a younger audience:

And finally the one I am most looking forward to by Star Wars writer Claudia Gray – Into the Dark:

The books do follow in order which means you should probably read them in that order too (due to possible spoilers or story continuation). Into the Dark is set at around the same time that the new Disney Plus series The Acolyte is set which some say is focused on the rise of Darth Plagueis. Looking at the time line it is possible Darth Plagueis was alive at the time of or very close to the end of the High Republic. And as most will know, Darth Plagueis’ now infamous apprentice was Darth Sidious (Sheev Palpatine). I doubt we’ll see the rise of Darth Sidious as that may be too late but Darth Plagueis and Darth Tenebrous were both around at a similar time in the Star Wars time line and as far as I know, they’re both Canon as well.

The article with all book excerpts can be found here if you want to read them.

Will you be reading these books? Let me know!

For anyone interested, here is a Sith time line which was very useful for this article. And I also used information from Wookiepedia.

  1. You bet I’ll be reading them! Can’t wait. There’s another one that’s been announced for July 2021 called The Rising Storm, an adult novel. I don’t think there’s too many details yet on that one, but I honestly haven’t checked yet. Very excited for this era of Star Wars.

    1. I dunno why I don’t feel as excited as I should. I guess I am still tied too much to the OT and those characters and the Skywalker saga. It’s silly but it almost feels like a betrayal if I like something that isn’t related to the Skywalker saga LOL I know that sounds silly but that’s kinda how I feel about it

      1. No, I totally get it. To me, Star Wars IS the Skywalker saga. I don’t usually like reading books that involve characters I’m not familiar with. But there’s something about the High Republic that appeals to me, I don’t know. Maybe because it’s a whole new era of Jedi, and I’m a big Jedi fan so I want to know more of their history and what happened back then. Anything about Jedi gets me excited, lol. I’m not too excited about the Rogue Squadron movie that’s next, or the Rangers of the New Republic show, for that reason. No Jedi, so I’m not too interested, lol. But I’m sure I’ll watch them anyway at some point.

      2. I understand – oh btw I emailed you šŸ˜€ So when you get a chance no rush at all, have a read of my ideas and let me know what you think šŸ™‚ I am going to look at Rangers because it could be a spin off for Cara Dune (that is what I read somewhere) and I like that character šŸ™‚ I am mostly interested in The Acolyte next to the Obi Wan series of course šŸ™‚

      3. Yes, I got your email, I’ll be replying to it tonight at some point. I love your ideas! The Acolyte takes place during the High Republic, so it may spark your interest. I’m really looking forward to that one, too.

  2. Hi Julie, I felt a little bit like you do, as if I was betraying the OT and it’s characters if I were to consume any other new material but it isn’t that bad. I was apprehensive about watching Rebels but after the first two episodes I had developed a strong interest in the series. It helped that the writing IMO was quite good and the characters were strong (take the story of Zeb Orrelius for example and his arc). If I can afford them and get hold of a copy or two I might give these new books and stories a chance.

    1. I will get around to reading them eventually but I have a long list lol. And yeah, it sounds strange you write it out but that is definitely how I feel. Letting go is harder than I expected šŸ™‚

      1. Hi there, look at it this way….you are in a room full of Star Wars and your friends Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie are there, then you glance around and see Jedi Knight Kriss and the new characters and strike up a conversation with them. You haven’t abandoned the OT crowd you have just made your circle of friends bigger….the OT crowd will never leave you! Hope these wise old words help!

And I have a massive amount of material to catch up on too.

      2. I can never abandon the OT as I do have a personal connection to those characters but I am a firm believer that all star wars is good star wars even when it’s bad lol that is my saying from now on kinda like cold pizza LOL

      3. I almost referenced Spaceballs – The Movie just then….Pizza the Hutt approves. Or maybe you are a Mandalorian Pizza Hunter….”you’re coming with me, either warm or cold”…..
I think I had best stop here, I am not feeling 100% normal!
