Star Wars Cinematic Universe – Could George Lucas Direct the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series?

I saw an image on my Twitter timeline that started me thinking all about the possibilities of George Lucas returning to the Star Wars fold for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. I mean we know that he has been on the set of The Mandalorian (according to social media images of him with Grogu) and we know that he has a very close relationship with Dave Filoni who refers to Lucas as his mentor. So would it be that far-fetched that George would be invited to take on an episode? Nope, not at all. In fact, it could very well be more than possible that might happen.

As far as rumours go regarding star wars, I’ve been mostly hit than miss. Probably the only rumour that so far has had no validity is whether or not Ben Solo would somehow make a return to the cinematic universe. That rumour was started by fans and spread online by YouTube channels like Mike Zerroh’s which has zero credibility. But Lucas returning even for one episode would be beyond epic and I am sure the fans would be amazed if it happened.

Could you just imagine it? 😍🤩😲

Another reason why I think this could happen is because of Hayden’s return to Star Wars. Last year was a monumental one for release information regarding the spin-off series for Disney Plus and the announcement about Hayden returning as Darth Vader. As we all know, Hayden was Lucas’ personal choice to play Anakin and he supported him even when the fandom turned on him and said he was a terrible actor. George and Hayden reunited would make total sense as well.

And just to clarify – I know Deborah Chow has been tapped to direct it but that might not necessarily mean George couldn’t be on-set or involved in some capacity. I just hope that they include him. It would be awesome of Deborah handed an episode to George or they work together on one 🙂

Let me know what you think about these ideas – if you agree or disagree it’s all good on this blog 😁

  1. Hi Julie, it would be a big boost for the show if George were to direct but it might just be him being on set giving guidance. You know a little “George Yoda Lucas”….”Hm, knowledge of Master Kenobi you seek…hm, talk to Lucas you must….come follow me…I take you….hehehehe!”

The reason I suggest it may only be George being on set for guidance, is that Lucas has said in the past that he was tired and directing a movie was getting too much for him (one reason he cited for not personally doing the sequels) and as TV series are getting more cinematic in scale and effort needed to produce it may be just too much like doing a movie for him.

But I’d love to see the Master and Apprentice unite to prove the prequel haters wrong!

    1. Hey there FT 🙂 Yeah, I agree with you but it’d be wonderful to see him in the seat again even if it was just one episode 😀 I am sure that Hayden, Ewan and George will reunite and hopefully we get to see photos even if it is behind the scenes 🙂
