Who is Your Star Wars Childhood Hero?

If you have followed this blog for a while, you will more than likely know that Luke Skywalker is my actual childhood Star Wars hero. If you didn’t, that’s totally understandable since I have posted a lot of content about other characters on this blog that I like.

And I know that characters are not the actors who portray them, but I think Mark Hamill gets pretty close to being Luke for many fans out there.

Recently, Ming-Na Wen (the actress that plays Fennec in The Mandalorian) took to her social media account to say something wonderful about her fondness for Mark Hamill and for Luke Skywalker:

And his reply to the fandom was just as epic:

Mark Hamill is also portrayed as a really nice guy in the media. Just like any fan that hasn’t met him, every interaction I’ve seen with him has always been wonderful, warm and positive. The only time I’ve ever encountered anything negative about him was on Pinterest when some pro-Trump fan went on about his political views on one of my Pins. But other than that (which really doesn’t count), my understanding of who Mark Hamill is as a person is a positive one – just like Luke Skywalker I guess ๐Ÿ˜…

So let’s see it people, who are your childhood Star Wars heroes (I think I already know FT’s and Tina’s), but I’m keen to see if I’m wrong. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Hit me up in the comments, stay safe out there my friends and I’ll catch you in tomorrow’s post!

  1. As you’ve probably guessed, Han Solo was my childhood hero. And still is, but he has to make room for others now. As I’ve mentioned before, Obi-Wan is my current hero. And even before the Mandalorian, my respect and admiration for Luke was beginning to grow. He was a bit overshadowed by Han Solo when I was a kid, lol, even though I did like him and recognize his hero status. So lots of heroes for me in Star Wars, but yeah, it was all about Han when I was a kid (and a good portion of my adulthood!).

      1. Lol, nothing wrong with being committed to Luke! Han had my heart for a long time, but these days I tend to fall for Jedi, lol. Obi-Wan, Luke, Kanan Jarrus, even Ben Solo in TROS. Love them all.

  2. Hi Julie, weeelll as a youngling I did have Luke as my Star Wars hero growing up. I too (after saving my pocket money/allowance) bought a lightsaber (well a flashlight with a tube) and fought against the imaginary Darth Vader. In fact I was the only kid in my town (and possibly in the UK) that had a green saber. You see it was at Christmas I got my toy saber and it was white but whist eating some wrapped candy sweets the Force called to me. There was one particular green wrapper that reflected the room lights and caught my eye. The wrapper was a thin plastic TRANSPARENT sheet and I realised I could flatten it out and after disassembling my saber, I could stretch this sheet over the top of the lightbulb to form a coloured filter. And it worked! I attended a Christmas Star Wars party a friend held, and he had ALL the toys and merch (he was an only child) and he had an “official ” Kenner toys saber. We all took our sabers to the party and gathered together in the dark ready to so a mass lighting of our weapons. 3-2-1 and whoosh! Everyone lit their saber and the room went silent in shock. Everyone looked at each other’s blades…white, white, white, another white one…..then boom! AN EMERALD GREEN BLADE! Boy was I popular when everyone saw I had Luke’s saber!
As I have gotten older I have also been drawn towards the character of Qui-Gon because as kids we were all prompted to aspire to be the main character hero (by the media and our parents)/ As I got older I realised there were other heroes in the saga. So I followed Luke, then Jinn and became For Tyeth, all of whom have something in common – that famous green blade!

    1. That is an awesome story wow! So I figured yours would be Qui Gon because you mention him a lot but I can totally understand why. I think it’s amazing how personal our journey’s in Star Wars have been ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Hi again, yes I suppose Luke was my childhood hero and Qui-Gon is my adulthood hero. As I mention as a kid I was sort of encouraged to be the hero saving the princess etc, but as Star Wars expanded so did my understanding of heroes – they come in many sizes and shapes.

      2. Yes indeed. I can understand Luke would be the guy for most people but I think it’s okay to like the bad guys too because if I had to put the characters in order, it would be Luke, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan. The bad guys aren’t exactly heroic but I guess there are reasons you can admire them as well ๐Ÿ™‚

      3. Heroes and villains are different for everyone – just depends on your point of view. Just ask Ani, “From my point of view it is the Jedi that are evil – If you aren’t with me then you are against me!”

      4. So true and I loved that line, not gonna lie. And that whole thing about looking through a different perspective is an actual thing I mean Obi-Wan said it first in ANH when he mentioned from a certain point of view – now there is an entire book line representing that. And Hayden Christensen doesn’t get enough credit for portraying someone really good and kind and then turning into someone who was exactly the same except on the opposite side! It must have been quite challenging for a young actor like that in a huge franchise like SW to pull that off at all let alone convincingly ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait to see him back in action as Vader. It’s going to be MONUMENTAL ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Hey there, Pooja! Ahhh yes, he is a favourite of one of my other star wars friends too ๐Ÿ™‚ I can see the appeal with Han Solo for sure ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for dropping by ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Hi Julie, I always struggle to choose an ultimate because my love of the characters crosses both the films and the toys. In many ways I would choose LUKE (because of his character growth in the films + he’s such a gent in real life) but also because my fave toy ever is Luke X-Wing Pilot and his X-Wing Fighter!!!

Carrie Fisher/LEIA is another big fave both for personality/acting/toy representations. Then there is Darth Vader for much the same reasons.

BUT… there is one little fella I will always have a BIG admiration for; his cheeky and audacious ways, his sense of adventure, his gadgets, his presence across the films, his multiple toy representations, his image plastered across millions upon millions of posters and adverts (often alongside his exasperated longtime buddy)…
    Can you guess?

    1. Lol as soon as you mentioned the word “exasperated” I knew exactly who you were referring to ๐Ÿ˜€ I love the droids as well and I do collect droid figures when I can. And yes, I think most people would have several favourites and not all of them traditional “hero” types either ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for replying, I hope your week is going well ๐Ÿ˜€

      1. Yes, I like Threepio as well lol only because he has no filter and says the most outrageous things sometimes lol. Thank you TVTA ๐Ÿ™‚ doing pretty good thus far ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You know, I did forget that about him – but you’re so right! A few of my readers love him, so far I have more people that adore Han than Luke and I never saw that one coming but it’s amazing ๐Ÿ™‚ One of the most endearing things about a fandom is their own personal connection to it. I just love hearing people tell me why or how they became fans ๐Ÿ™‚
