The Star Wars Book – Ben Solo

So I received my copy of The Star Wars Book today by Pablo Hildalgo and others and as I was quickly skimming through it, I noticed at the bottom of each character page there is a section that says “Status Report” as you can see below:

“Converted to the light side and deceased” is what it says for Ben Solo. For other characters that also died such as Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, it simply says “One with the Force”. So this means and confirms that Ben Solo did not become one with the force as many fans thought. If he did, it would have stated that there.

Now I think this is because Ben was never taught how to do that and when he faded at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, that was just the light shining on him once more because he had converted back to the light side of the force and was redeemed. It is a “bluish” light or light that has a blue tint to it so that’s most likely why so many fans thought he had become one with the force:

So that is it, he never became one with the force which means there is absolutely no way that he can come back as a force ghost. And that is going to make a lot of fans very unhappy. As for me, I am okay with this as much as I love Ben’s story, I am kinda over that whole thing now. I’ve given myself enough time to grieve the loss of the characters I adored and I am happy to say that I am okay with this.

Although it does irk me that after going back to the light and even his mother becoming one with the force, they didn’t or couldn’t do that for Ben. If anything, that is the only part that makes me feel a little annoyed at the writers. But on the flip side of that, my understanding is that Ben was never supposed to be redeemed, at least not in Colin Trevorrow’s version. And to be honest, I would have much preferred that ending than the one we got but I am okay with it, really.

So, what do you think about any of this my Star Wars friends? Do you think it was right the way Ben’s end was written? Do you think it could have been better?

  1. Yeah, I’m still a bit confused with Ben’s death. If Anakin can be redeemed and come back as a Force ghost, why can’t Ben? I’m still wondering if it has something to do with the dyad–in the novelization, after Ben dies, Rey hears him say, “I will always be with you.” Is his spirit a part of hers now? A dyad, by its very nature, is one soul in two bodies (I think). So when Ben lost his body, his soul went into Rey’s???? Still so many questions….

    1. Yup that is correct – a Dyad is two that are one. I was thinking that it might have had something to do with his life force. He gave everything he had left to Rey so she could survive him, essentially redeeming himself and going back to the light. So when he gave all of his life force to her, there was nothing left. He was well and truly “dead” in the sense that we know it and perhaps also unable to pass over and become one with the force. Maybe it’s a healing thing. That is the only way I can describe it 🙂 And yeah, so many questions lol which will probably never get answered 😦
