Adobe Photoshop Art Update – When Art Gets Abandoned

Hello creativity lovers! A quick break from Star Wars content for this post so I can finally update my blog with the art I’ve been making over the last few weeks. For anyone who is here purely for the Star Wars content, do not fret, my friends! This blog celebrates Star Wars AND creativity, so I post about art-related topics every now and then. If you want to see more of my art-related posts, you can do that right here! Some of it will also be Star Wars art, but some like this piece are not related to Star Wars.

And speaking of tutorials, I have done a couple of tutorials that I haven’t posted about, and one of them I did last year! I put that one on hold because I became a little frustrated with the process. If I remember correctly๐Ÿ˜… I abandoned it and revisited it several months later, and funnily enough, I finished it, and it came out really well (I think!) So I’d like to blog about that one today, I won’t be going through the tutorial today, but I might write about the process later on. For now, I just want to show my friends what I’ve done because I struggled with this one a fair bit.

There was no PSD to work with either, so you had to do everything following the online tutorial from scratch. Here is the original poster:

I had many issues getting the text to the correct size and alignment. So when I stopped, I left it half done, and it looked like this:

When Art Gets Abandoned
VERSION ONE OF MANY

When I came back to the poster after many months, I decided I would do whatever I could to get the text and alignment right, and I came up with two versions of the original. I finally decided to change the colours of the final version to reflect more of “me” into it, I guess. And then I animated it for a bit of fun and I think it came out great:

I guess the moral of my story is sometimes putting things down for another day is the best thing you can possibly do. Especially if you’re stuck and going nowhere. Art can be a fantastic thing, but it can also be frustrating. It’s all part of that creative process ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜ Just don’t give up and come back another day!

I am trying to learn how to design posters. And this was the first typographic poster I’ve tried to make. So you’ll be seeing more of this type of art as I learn and grow – but with less frustration lol ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ If you have any comments about this art or any of my art, feel free to leave me a comment. I always reply!

Thanks for reading and supporting me. Catch you in my next post, friends – stay safe out there and as always – keep creating!

  1. I’ve abandoned so many creative projects over the years, lol. But a lot of the time I do revisit them and sometimes even finish them! Sometimes you need that distance to see it more clearly and figure out how to make it better. Nice poster! I always like your animations.

    1. Thank you ๐Ÿ˜€ Oh yeah, I am one of those people that obsesses over things when I try to get something right and I have to force myself to leave it and start something else lol. I tend to do that a lot, one of my folders with all my writing in it has stories abandoned all the way from 2003 LOL I am terrible man…

      1. Hmm I dunno I looked at a few of them the other day and while they ideas I had for the story itself aren’t that bad, the rest of it is rubbish ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

      2. Lol, okay maybe you can pull the good stuff out and trash the rest. At any rate, they’re all part of the process, right? Always save your stuff, because you never know.

      3. Yeah, I agree, I think if it came down to doing it I would find it hard to just delete something. I am a digital hoarder lol so I usually keep everything I write or make on my computer. You just get attached to things I think especially if you created it from scratch.

      4. Oh yes, was meaning to ask you! How’s it going in general? Did you manage to find work or are you still looking? This year for me has been really up and down so far on the job front. But I’d rather hear about your life than my own lol ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜

      5. I’m still looking, but we’re managing and I’m taking the time off to get stuff done, focus on blogging, and spend more time with my family. I’m rather enjoying it, lol. Thanks for asking!

      6. Nice. If there’s one thing I learned last year it’s that nothing is more important than family and loved ones – even if you have the best job in the world, it doesn’t and definitely shouldn’t be important than family ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad to hear you’re getting to do these things ๐Ÿ˜€
