Star Wars Is Poetry – Canon vs Legends and Youtini

Hi there Star Wars friends! I hope this week has been good for you,, and if not, well, the weekend is coming soon (already Saturday here in Aotearoa!) 😁

Since starting my new goals for the year, I’ve been slowly chipping away at several books, and I’ve spent some time trying to focus on Star Wars books.

My biggest reading obstacle is lack of time and too many distractions. I find that if I can’t focus for a few hours on reading, I’ll never read. So I’ve had to make a few adjustments. I’ve decided that it’s too tricky choosing a star wars book to read myself because there are just too many to choose from out there.

So I found Youtini again. I’ve known about the Youtini website for a while, but I just forgot it existed until today lol 😂 So, I will start going through the Youtini website to get me on track for more star wars reading. I might just follow one of their timelines to make it easier. Then I won’t have to sit there deliberating over what I want to read or should read.

Bearing in mind, though, I also include non-fiction books in my reading lists. I don’t want to just focus on star wars fiction as I enjoy reading non-fiction books. I haven’t checked, but I am guessing Youtini is fine if you want EU Canon and Legends timelines, but they might not cover non-fiction. But that’s okay. I think I can deal with the non-fiction book choices on my own. I just find the list of fiction books overwhelming.

So if you’re a big star wars book reader and you’re not sure what to read next, or you would like some random suggestions on what to read, Youtini is your best bet. Their website is quite impressive when you look at it. It’s basically like Wikipedia except for star wars books lol – their book lists are crazy-good!

  1. I like the Youtini website, too, although I haven’t been there for awhile. It’s a good idea to use its lists for reading ideas, because there really are so many SW books out there! I tend to prefer canon books, though I’ve read a few good Legends books. For canon books, my favorites are Bloodline, by Claudia Gray (any of her books are great), Catalyst, by James Luceno, and Dark Disciple, by Christie Golden. And of course, the High Republic books. Can’t wait to see what you pick out and what you think!

    1. Thank you Tina 🙂 I think I remember you telling me about Youtini a while back and I didn’t know what it was then I don’t think lol! But yeah it’s an incredible resource for anyone that loves to read Star Wars books. I think I’d be totally lost without it. I am more of a fan of the canon content overall so I know the canon books will be my focus for now. I can’t wait to compare our views as well because I know you have read so many of those books already 😀

      1. Yeah I think Graphic Novels and comics should probably be separate. But I am going to try and read what interests me first because that way I know I have a better chance of finishing it. I am struggling with books at the moment (well for a while now) so I need to choose my books carefully. Star Wars books are a little different because I actually want to read them which helps. But I am trying to avoid having books half-read and left for years 🙂

      2. Ha! I can appreciate that sentiment. Although I do think that if you get half-way through a book and ya just don’t like it that it is okay to stop and “move along.” In the past I had a hard time with that, I convinced myself I HAD to read the book even if I hated it. Now, I don’t even bother. If I dislike it (even if it is a Star Wars book, I just say “nope” and go on).

        That all said, graphic novels offer an easier reading experience sometimes. I got the High Republic graphic novels for example (I don’t buy individual comic books anymore) and they add depth to those stories/characters. And for someone like yourself who is into The Old Republic, the Tales of the Jedi and Knights of the Old Republic graphic novels would certainly add to that experience. Even a recent episode of The Book of Boba Fett offers a nod to the Knights of the Old Republic graphic novels which I’m sure most people did not catch.

        Anyway, long story short, read what ya want and hopefully you overcome the reading struggle soon!
