Luke Skywalker – The Original Hero by Brian Rood

LUKESKYWALKERBYBRIANROOD (1000px, 25fps)

Brian Rood has to be one of the most well known Star Wars artists out there, if not the most well known. His work has inspired generations of Star Wars artists and you can easily see why. Whilst there isn’t a lot of colour in Brian’s image above, there are a lot of elements in the image that work well with animation. I haven’t edited this image other than adding animation to it, even keeping the black paint splatters in from the original art.

I’ve always considered Luke Skywalker to be the original Star Wars hero for the films and to me he always will be.

Darth Maul and my absence from the fandom…

Hey everyone (assuming people still read this blog). I’ve been a long time away from posting here but it’s not without good reason. Almost a month or so ago something happened to me while I was playing SWTOR. Something inside me just broke. Ever since then, I haven’t been able to bring myself to play. I don’t know why it happened but it just did. So I took a breather from the fandom and today is the first time I’ve thought about creating more SW motion art in a while, which is why I haven’t posted here. I still update my IG but not as often as I used to. I am still on Pinterest and Twitter but in a reduced capacity. I’ve actually been pulled back into an old fandom of mine for the Karate Kid franchise and I’ve been hanging out mostly on Tumblr with other like-minded fans of the movie and the new YT Red show, Cobra Kai.

I can’t explain exactly how I feel about things. I am still trying to figure it all out but for now, I’ve decided to keep creating motion art because someone on IG sent me a really nice message and it’s helped to motivate me back into creating stuff.

So for anyone who still frequents this blog, this is for you, and thank-you for sticking with me, even though I’ve been a fairly crappy blogger of late.

Qui Gon Jin vs Darth Maul – Duel on Tatooine by Chris Trevas

The encounter between Darth Maul and Qui Gon Jin on Tatooine was one of the best moments of the Star Wars prequel movie, along with the very last light sabre battle (of course). The only thing I enjoy doing these days is making motion art, gifs and writing really bad fanfic. So I’ll be continuing to blog here with anything I create. For now, SWTOR is taking a back seat in a big way. I haven’t played for some time now, but that’s a topic for another post.

The art above was created by the hugely talented star wars artist Chris Trevas

Center of the Storm by Raymond Swanland

I’ve since discovered that there are certain images that were made to animate and certain images that just aren’t. Picking the right image to work with is half the job, really. I’ve had some hit and misses along the way (not just animating Star Wars images either) and I think I might be a little better at picking the images that will just shine once they are animated.

I took one look at this image by artist Raymond Swanland and knew it would make a beautiful animation – I think I picked the right one 🙂

There’s way too much great art out there…

This piece of art is amazing, I couldn’t stay away from it – as you can see I’ve added some special “animations” to the original image by artist Dominicdrawsart on Tumblr. This was not an easy piece to animate either, not for me. I’m still getting used to the tool but I think I am improving in little steps 🙂

Back to SWTOR – Vaylin Motion Art

SWTOR GIF 02

I’ve taken a teeny tiny little break from playing SWTOR so I can create all of this fun motion art and I think it’s really paid off! Now, I am going to try and focus any motion art I do for the next few days on SWTOR. I’m also hoping to continue my trading and armour comparisons very soon. I had real fun with the animation above, adding the blue orbs to Vaylin’s hands really makes the animation “pop”. What do you think?

Motion Art – Jedi Master Luke and the Resistance

JEDIMASTERLUKESKYWALKER01

I really like this image of Luke – it’s actually a really good image to animate because it has flowy robes, hair and clouds 🙂 So I figured, heck, why not and finally managed to optimize it and get the size down from 42 megabytes to around 8 (perfect for Pinterest).
