The Pull to the Light – Kylo Ren Animation

I’ve spent some time organising my motion art, GIFs and video clips on Pinterest because I have amassed quite a few over the year or so that I’ve been making them. I thought just one board looked too cluttered and now I can see exactly how many I’ve made and what I’ve made.

While GIF-making was not new to me, creating motion art was something new that I started to enjoy and thought “why not?” Just with anything that’s new, I can see that some of the images I made weren’t as polished as they could have been now that I’ve been making them for a couple years. So I am using some of those original images I created as Motion Art and I’m improving them, at least I think I am 😂

Here’s one I remember making and I liked it at that time, but I decided to improve it. I see Kylo Ren’s struggle in this image, the shadows behind him but still part of him, with the light still there, trying to penetrate the shadow. Turning it into motion art was a pleasure. I also edited the original image extensively as I didn’t like how “washed” out and over-exposed the original image looked. When I first made this motion art I didn’t even notice that the original image was over-exposed. I guess I have learned a few things along the way 😊

“The force will never betray you”… Kylo Ren and Ben Solo edit

I had this image in my head of an edit I wanted to do with both Kylo Ren and Ben Solo which started off as something like a “Who did you become?” post which I’ve done before with other characters. But then I looked at the image I had made a little longer and came up with the edit below. The concept stems from Kylo Ren being Ben Solo and Ben Solo is Kylo Ren. Even when Kylo Ren was at his worst, in his darkest hour (from The Force Awakens when he killed his father), to the moment he turned his back on Kylo Ren and became Ben Solo once more. The force was there, it was always there, flowing all around him, flowing between Kylo Ren and Ben Solo and within them. Even though they are one person, Adam Driver was so masterful at portraying them as two separate people and that’s how I came up with this edit. I wanted to show the force flowing between both of his persona’s, and just as he was two different people, darkness and light, I wanted to show this in the flow of the force, both red for darkness and blue for light.

And in the end, the force would never betray him as the force was always there both in his darkest moments and his most heroic.

Ben Solo The Rise of Skywalker Animation

So it’s officially 2020 now and I wanted to kickstart the year with a beautiful animation with art by shuploc.tumblr.com. It’s one of the most beautiful pieces of Ben Solo that I’ve seen and I just had to animate it! I added the blue lighting to signify Ben’s turn to the light in the final act.

And I mucked around with this edit I did some time ago and changed the lightsabers both to blue signifying Ben and Rey’s Dyad in the Force. I also changed Ben’s lightsaber as well (otherwise it would have looked weird with a blue crossguard lightsaber).

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Allegiance Kylo Ren Animation

I’ve been looking through the latest star wars comics and as you know, creating animated comic covers and comic art is kind of my thing. So I saw this image of Kylo Ren and really wanted to animate it so here it is – plus I promised to upload more content. I did this one today. What do you think?

I’ve also started watermarking the stuff I edit and animate because too many people are taking my edited images from Pinterest or this website and reposting as their own. So unless they’re wizards in Photoshop, they’re not getting this image without a watermark any time soon… 😅

Star Wars A New Hope Animated Poster

The new Star Wars posters have finally arrived in semi-HD quality, and after looking at the image for Star Wars A New Hope (also in my favourite colour, purple!), I really wanted to add a few animations to it to see what it would look like.

I am pretty happy with the end result, I think it looks quite pretty – what do you think?

Multiple Star Wars edits

So I have been busy with Photoshop and Illustrator this weekend making a few edits and GIFs/MP4s. I seem to really like this edit I did of Kylo Ren because I’ve used it several times before:

Mobile phone animation – Kylo Ren and Darth Maul GIFs

I’ve been learning how to make animation on my phone and there are some really good apps out there for people who like to create stuff on the go! I played around a bit with Pixaloop, and I found it was good for making quick animations. There are other apps you can use as well which utilise templates where you add your image and text and the app does the animation for you. I am sure there are dozens of apps that do this but I wanted to see how easy it would be to do.

Here are a few of my “mini” projects created on my phone:
