Star Wars A New Hope Animated Poster

The new Star Wars posters have finally arrived in semi-HD quality, and after looking at the image for Star Wars A New Hope (also in my favourite colour, purple!), I really wanted to add a few animations to it to see what it would look like.

I am pretty happy with the end result, I think it looks quite pretty – what do you think?

Multiple Star Wars edits

So I have been busy with Photoshop and Illustrator this weekend making a few edits and GIFs/MP4s. I seem to really like this edit I did of Kylo Ren because I’ve used it several times before:

And one I did of the new poster that released by Rory Kurtz

Mobile phone animation – Kylo Ren and Darth Maul GIFs

I’ve been learning how to make animation on my phone and there are some really good apps out there for people who like to create stuff on the go! I played around a bit with Pixaloop, and I found it was good for making quick animations. There are other apps you can use as well which utilise templates where you add your image and text and the app does the animation for you. I am sure there are dozens of apps that do this but I wanted to see how easy it would be to do.

Here are a few of my “mini” projects created on my phone:

Luke Skywalker Heir to the Jedi Cover Art Animation

I’ve been home for the last couple of days, so I’ve had some time to sit down and actually make some quality edits. On Pinterest, I seem to be growing a lot more steadily than expected with both followers and views on my content. So I am quite happy about that. I’ve also noticed that my video content seems to be getting more interest than GIFs do (GIFs are trendy on Tumblr and Imgur but not as prevalent on Pinterest in my experience) so I’ve been creating .mp4 files instead of GIFs for my posts there. One of the posters I animated has had about 54 thousand views (which is a lot for me), so I plan to keep making these as people seem to enjoy them πŸ™‚

Here’s another edit I did use colour grading in Photoshop and then animating it. The original art is by Larry Rostant. Isn’t this art magnificent? There are three versions of this image too, all of them with Luke in a different pose (so I can animate those at a later date):

So the above image is not the same as the edit I did below where I made a lot of colour grading changes, and I intensified the light source from behind Luke as you can see here:

Cyberpunk Animation 01

I’ve had this image on my hard drive for years now and I finally decided to do something with it because it’s so cool. Being a computer geek I’ve always had a fascination for all things cyberpunk, but I’ve never really done anything with it on the art and editing side of things. Maybe that’s going to change…

Here’s my edit of the wallpaper I found years back:

Kylux Animation – Kylo and General Hux

I’ve never posted anything relating to Kylux on this blog because I’m not really into the ship at all but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate someone else’s artistic genius. I stumbled upon this on Tumblr today and I just couldn’t believe how beautifully touching and moving it was… I mean you need to look beyond the aesthetic and to the simplistic yet emotional narrative occurring between the two characters.

This artist on Tumblr created these images of Kylo Ren and General Hux lying in their bed, Kylo with his back to Hux and facing the wall. There are only a few words shared in the images but it’s a very powerful exchange that I just couldn’t ignore. I had to do something with this beautiful art.

So I created a small movie clip in Microsoft Photos. I wanted a change from using Adobe software and wanted to go as bare bones as possible. I created an MP4 out of the clip and added a little atmospheric music to it. I think it makes such an impact, it’s so sad and tragic yet beautiful all at the same time. I think the music helps to deliver that, I dunno, that’s what I think anyway. If you want to check out the original art it’s here.

Here’s my animation:

Kylo Ren and Rey – Darkside, Lightside, The Glowing side!

I found this beautiful art by Kasiopea on Tumblr and instantly saw this image as two separate images both black and white with a mysterious “glow” around the outside. Don’t ask me why I saw that, that is just what popped into my head! Obviously, the original is perfect and beautiful and awesome, but that is what I saw, so I had to at least try and make it happen.

I wanted to learn this technique for a while after seeing it in action on Tumblr (a lot of people use this technique to make their otherwise dull and bland images or quotes come to life). It’s so simple, I almost cried πŸ˜‚ (but seriously) – it’s really easy.

I’ll be writing a neat and quick tutorial post about it soon but until then… and here it is in practice:
