Darkside Creative – Personal Post April 2022: Please Read

Hello, my Star Wars friends. It has been a while since I blogged last, but I can see people still find my blog helpful and informative, which is good, I guess. So, I have something significant to say today, which will explain why I haven’t been online in any actual capacity. You may be shocked by this news, but it has been a month or so since it happened, so I feel okay to write about it here (barely okay, that is).

Remember when I mentioned that my Mum was really sick in a previous post? Well, she actually died from that illness. Even writing these words for the first time is extremely difficult for me (as you can probably imagine). It hasn’t been very long since it happened, and I haven’t been back to work since either. Nothing can ever be this hard, and I’ve already lived through losing one parent. But my mum and I were exceptionally close.

I have this burning feeling in my gut telling me to use this experience and write about it. So I am considering starting another blog to vent and air my feelings and doubts about what happened. My goal is always to try and help people when I write. But it doesn’t always end up happening. As a writer, I know how these things can be nothing like what you planned. Writing has a way of getting away from you sometimes.

Anyway, that is my update or at least part of my update. I know that a lot has happened since I last blogged, such as an Obi-Wan trailer release. I wish I could feel happy about this stuff again, but I just can’t – at least not for now. It’s excruciating to write through what feels like a void in my heart and in my life right now. So I can’t promise when my next update will be. And that is the best I can do. I understand if you wish to unfollow. That is entirely your choice.

There is no image for this post. The words are too important.

Thanks for reading. If you’re a long-time follower, I appreciate your patience and understanding. If you’re new, I still welcome you to my blog but I’m not sure what the future looks like for me at this stage.

We’ll talk soon just not sure when but I’m still (kind of) around the site lurking here and there.

Thanks for reading.

Your Star Wars friend, Julie (AKA Darkside Creative).

Keeping things light and fun for the start of a long weekend in Aotearoa, here are today’s images for Fun Star Wars Friday:

The first GIF is just plain silly lol – everyone KNOWS Darth Sidious aka Emperor Palpatine is the FAIREST in all of the galaxy 🤣

AND as for Boba Fett – he’s got his own show now which is cool and all but is he REALLY the star of that show? One “two” many bounty hunters if you ask me lol

Pick Me Up Friday’s – Have Faith in Yourself 😁👍

Hi everyone, and welcome to another “Pick Me Up Friday” from yours truly!

I don’t know about you guys, but it has been something of a whirlwind new year for me, with time rushing by. I’ve never really experienced the new year like this before, but then again, I’ve probably just chosen not to take notice lol 🤣

Today I want to share this little graphic I made a couple of years back during one of my creative bouts, lol. It’s nothing special, just from me to you. Now I know there are many people out there who find it difficult to have any kind of faith in themselves or in their abilities and skills. If you’re anything like me, you will try to sabotage any kind of good event by telling yourself you don’t deserve it. Well, YOU ABSOLUTELY deserve it, and I’m here to say it’s okay if you have doubts because EVERYONE does. I go through bouts of doubting myself that last for days … it is no joke to feel this way, so don’t ever let anyone tell you differently. It’s essential to recognise what you’re doing and counteract with something positive.

Please forgive me if I come across as preachy lol that is not my intention. I just want people to read something positive ❤️❤️💙💙💜💜

I know it’s small, but this is my thing and my message to anyone reading:

Until my next post – stay safe out there, stay humbled and stay kind! Catch you in the comments as always 😌🙂

The Year in Review – 2021

Hi all! So it seems it’s that time of year again! Time for us to reflect on our year past and on the ups and downs and everything inbetween. I’ve decided to make this a mandatory post every year on the last day of the year in Aotearoa (due to time zones, this post may come to you a day earlier than intended).

I’m going to be using my journal to revisit things that happened this year. I never thought I’d get to use my journal for such a thing but it turns out it’s just perfect for remembering things.

COVID ruled 2021 again. I guess a lot of people will be writing about that. It touches everyone everywhere and some so much worse than others. This makes me thankful for the fact that I live where I do and we haven’t experienced anything even close to some countries. This makes me feel very blessed.

I can see entries about work focusing on being made redundant way back in April! It was there all along but I guess most of the people in my team chose to ignore the signs until it was too late. As it turns out, most of us got relocated this year, some had to leave. I guess the question to ask is are any of us any happier than we were?

I wrote a lot about writing for other websites and how exciting it was at the time. After getting turned down for accreditation for Sundance this year, I’ve reached a huge block in the road in terms of my writing.

I want to believe in positivity but failure is always so close. When some people strive to do better, somewhere deep inside, imposter’s syndrome is just waiting to get the jump on them. My problem is I always give up and end up failing the goals I’ve set myself.

Will I be goal setting for next year? Yes! I didn’t expect to fail when I did. I really wanted to make it to Sundance this year. I was hoping to use that as a foundation to grow my freelance business again. But I didn’t. Now I don’t know where to start again or even if I want to.

Star Wars continued to be a constant light in my life this year but I did get distracted with many other things and kinda stopped collecting and buying. I do have one amazing Star Wars figure coming next year (assuming they don’t push the date back). It will be a thing to celebrate.

What was your 2021 like? What were your highlights or your lows? What did you overcome? Where did you fail? Life is a mixed bag of all of these things, but it’s important to do your best and be your best for the people that matter.

My final thoughts for 2021 – I survived some difficult situations. I feel good about that. Let me know what you’re hoping for in the year to come. I’ll be writing a new year post as well!
