Welcome to All My New Readers and a Small Pinterest Celebration!

I feel like I need to start celebrating positive things that happen to me more because I really don’t do that at all. At least I’ll be happy inside if I achieve something, but I kind of keep it to myself, which I am being told I shouldn’t, and I should share any little positive step with others.

These two things are pretty small, but they represent things that I am passionate about. The growth of this website has at times been a struggle, but I am happy to say it is still growing! I hit 832 readers the other day, and I couldn’t be more satisfied! At the end of the day, it’s not really about the numbers, but about the happiness you bring to other people’s lives even if it is a small thing to do. And I am so happy that my website has its own small community of beautiful people that bring joy to my world every day! This blog would not be what it is without them.

So if you’ve just joined Darkside Creative’s community by following me, you can expect A LOT of Star Wars content (all sorts of content relating to Star Wars), some social media posts, along with art posts and photoshop posts sprinkled throughout as well. It is dedicated to being creative, but mostly it’s about Star Wars (a big deal in my life!)

Thank you for choosing my humble little blog 🙏🙏🙏😊☺️

And lastly, I have a milestone on Pinterest that I need to share here because the majority of the growth from my Pinterest account has come from all the Star Wars content I post there, so it’s very much connected to this blog:

So it’s a little small, but that pic above was taken from the email I received from Pinterest congratulating me on 10,000 followers 😊☺️😁. I honestly never thought I would see my Pinterest account get that many followers because it was never a goal to achieve. I love following statistics and analytics, but that’s only really for my own interest. I don’t think what I do can seriously be considered as any type of marketing strategy. I simply post about what I love, and I love Star Wars! And from that love, my Pinterest blog expanded 😊☺️😁

I have started to set myself some goals because I feel like I should, and if I can grow my accounts into places that bring people happiness, I should continue on that road. I’ve set myself a little Instagram goal of 10K followers as well, and I am well away from that at 8.9K. I am now using IG analytics, and it’s fascinating to see where all my activity comes from and who is supporting my content. I’ve used some of this information to form a posting schedule to target particular times of the day, so I can engage with my “people” more. I read about this from Neil Patel, who is a super good marketing guru! If you are interested in anything at all to do with marketing or using social media as a way to reach your audience, he is the person to go to.

Anyway, that’s it! Thanks for reading and I hope everyone is doing well at the start of the working week and keeping safe out there! If you have anything to share about social media or about goal setting or anything at all, feel free to hit me up in the comments – I always reply 😊☺️😁

If you like my Star Wars posts, you can check out more of them right here.

And while you’re there, why not consider following me on Twitter, Instagram and right here, on WordPress.

Thanks for your support!

Social Media and Blogging Update #2 – Pinterest Metric Update 2021

Hello fellow readers, bloggers and social media lovers! As I stated in a recent post, I will be blogging every now and then (not too often) about social media and blogging in general. I will discuss everything from blogging tips I’ve learned, blogging statistics and social media tips, tricks, and stats in these posts.

I think I am a bit of a statistics nerd even though I hated it at school 😅 I honestly never used to care one iota about stats or social media until the day I noticed my Pinterest posts were blowing up and I couldn’t figure out why. I blame that day entirely for piquing my interest in social media, trends and stats and I’ve been trying to learn about these topics intermittently ever since.

So today, I want to focus specifically on Pinterest’s new method of creating metrics for your pins and content. I have only just seen their update (it was updated today, in fact) so I think it’s important to talk about that today since it is a HUGE update.

This is a long (ish) post so bear with me while I delve into the world of Pinterest.

What has Pinterest changed?

Previously, Pinterest would collect data on everything you pinned to your account, and this includes all pins added from other sites (so using the Pinterest save button). The change they have made is quite a significant one because you will no longer receive stats for pins that you have not pinned from accounts that you own (they call these claimed accounts). This essentially also renders the Pinterest save button “useless” with regards to stats and analytics.

A claimed account is basically any domain (site, blog etc.) you own and link to your Pinterest account and any other social media account (so far they only offer options to link Instagram, Etsy and YouTube accounts). So you share all the pins that are linked to Pinterest from these accounts.

If you make a lot of your own pins instead of just pinning from other websites, you shouldn’t notice much of a change in your stats. My primary concern with this is that most Pinterest users will only use Pinterest to pin from other sites – this is their “bread and butter” way of getting users to continue using Pinterest. Most pinners “pin” as they go which is almost everyone! So any stats that you would normally get from any pins not linked to your claimed accounts will no longer show as “monthly views” under your profile pic.

This is what I mean here as an example:

Pinterest Update #8 Still Trending Up

Keeping up the trend from my last Pinterest update, things are still moving upward in some areas of my Pinterest analytics and I’m still gaining followers and viewers:

The growth is small but still growth so I’ll take it 😃

Pinterest Update #7 I finally did it, friends! 1 Million Unique Monthly Viewers!

As the title of my post suggests, I woke up this morning and going through my usual updates on social media, Pinterest put a goofy grin on my face:

Of course, this can be obtained other ways too like through using photoshop 😂😂🤣 but why would anyone do that (and they do, some people on the internet are strange). Here’s my Pinterest link if you want to check out my account and in particular, my Star Wars board (which has been the most popular board for some time).

Followers went up a teeny wee bit as well, which is awesome!

And the new metric I introduced last week is tracking nicely too

Being Pinterest, these figures are likely to change and may drop quite drastically so my new challenge it so try and keep the figures up as much as possible and see how well I can progress. My next soft goal for now is 1.25 Million unique viewers and I’d like to get my followers to 800 and engaged audience up to 200K. Let’s see if my content can intice even more viewers 😁

Til next time, friends!

Pinterest Update #6 – Moving on up once more!

If you’ve been following my Pinterest posts and updates, you’ll know that the world of social media and in particular, Pinterest, can be very up and down. When I first started using Pinterest, I was not a very dedicated pinner. It took some time for me to realise just how useful Pinterest is and in particular, how good Pinterest is at generating interest in what you do. I use Pinterest primarily for collecting images of the areas I focus on such as Writing, Film, Graphic Design and Star Wars. Since 2017 I have collected over 20,000 images on my Star Wars board alone and more than 50,000 images in total.

My last update shared the following stats from Pinterest:

And on the follower side of things:

These are my current stats as of today 28/05/2019:
