Star Wars is Poetry – Quote of the Day

I wanted to make an edit from an image I saw on Pinterest and I came up with this and then started thinking about how much of an impact Carrie Fisher had on the Star Wars fandom. And I made this as a small tribute to her legacy on IG.

Carrie Fisher, the Princess of Alderaan, we miss you!

Star Wars is Poetry – Quote of the Day

Today’s quote comes from Princess Leia and it’s one of my favourites. Leia certainly had some great one-liners, especially when she was giving sass to Han Solo!

I found this image on Pinterest and it looked like someone had ripped out the original from a magazine, most likely the Star Wars Insider. So I cleaned up the image, extended the canvas so I could fit the quote onto it and then animated it.

I hope you enjoy today’s image and quote! Feel free to share on social media 🙂

Darth Vader and Leia Edit

I made this by combining two images I had created from previous edits and then created the double exposure edit below.

Leia did not meet her father until nineteen years after she was born. By the time she met him on the Death Star, the encounter with her father was a cruel twist of fate, both Leia and Vader were unaware of their relationship with each other at the time.

The Light – A Star Wars Poem from Leia to Ben

I haven’t written much poetry over the last few years mostly because, for me, poetry was a way to express feelings I haven’t felt in a long time. Sometimes I would just write poetry because I was inspired, but most of the time, it was a way of dealing with aspects of my life that were too painful to deal with any other way.

Today, I felt suddenly inspired by a GIF set I saw on Tumblr – these two GIFs to be precise:

On Tumblr, people were talking about how you can see the shadow of the dark side of the force go over Kylo’s face and then, gradually, it leaves. You can see this in the second GIF. This makes a lot of sense because, in that scene, Kylo is very close to blasting his mother and everyone else on the ship to smithereens. But he doesn’t. The pull to the light was still too strong for him to kill his mother. This would lead me to believe that Kylo had a much stronger bond with Leia then he did with Han as a child, well, it’s possible.

So here’s the poem:

You are not the cruelty of the shadows
You are the light that once shone upon my cheek
But fall you did, and for a time, you lost your way
And although you stumbled and you let the darkness in
The light was still a part of you
Gently resting in the recesses of your soul
Waiting for a kindred spirit
To pull open the doorway to your heart
And let the light live there once more

Hope Dies – Star Wars Comic Cover Edit

I really like this comic cover. I love how the artist captured Princess Leia with the blueprints showing in her cape of a Star Destroyer, an X-Wing and a TIE Fighter that makes it really stand out for me. It’s unusual and works so well for this comic.

So I decided to edit out all the text to see what it would look like without it. I also did some extra things in Photoshop, just experimenting really and part of being creative is trying new things, right? I do this a lot in my spare time. I learn something, and then I try it out on different things. For this image, I used textures and actions in Photoshop to get the effect I wanted.

Original Cover Art by Travis Charest who works for Dark Horse comics

Edit Two – mixed media effect

Edit three – textures, backgrounds and a lot of editing
