The Rise of Skywalker promo images!

You can tell that the promotion for The Rise of Skywalker is now in full swing as there are new images popping up all over the internet. There were also images released from the New York Comic Con for all the new books that will be coming out and one of these image is actualy amazing! I took one part of it and animated it, the second part is coming but the image is taken from the upcoming comic The Rise of Kylo Ren:

Other images included HD versions of images previously released like these which I’ve edited in Photoshop just to make them pop a little:

So much TRoS Star Wars goodness!

I might need to split this post into two because there has been a huge release of new images for The Rise of Skywalker including character posters for The Knights of Ren, Rey and Kylo Ren.

Here are a few of the animations and edits I’ve created today. This first one is cool looking but was originally blue and I changed it to red (because red is the First Order colour and also synonymous with the dark side of the force). Someone mentioned on Instagram that they originally made it blue because of the supposed “Bendemption” that many fans think will happen in the new film. I’ve read all the spoilers and leaks and let’s just say “anything is possible” at this stage but I’m sticking with red!

Kylo Ren The Rise of Skywalker Character Poster Edit

The next image was originally coloured and I changed the entire image so that the blue would have more of a contrast in the animation. I also symbolise Rey as “water” and Kylo Ren as “fire” in the elements:

Kylo Ren companion piece to the Rey one above. I also wanted the red to appear as if it was bleeding in the animation, did I manage to pull it off? I am not sure…

Another Star Wars is Poetry edit

It’s really lovely to be able to use all of the edits I so painstakingly created for my new blog. It actually feels like all those hours I put into editing in Photoshop is somehow paying off (except just not in a monetary way), and I’m very okay with that.

I was a little disappointed to go on Reddit the other day to see one of my edits posted there straight from this website without a single credit, not even to the original artist! That really annoyed me. Firstly because well, it was my edit, and secondly because the art actually belongs to someone! This is just really awful to do. I actually had to stop venturing out to specific social media sites because I couldn’t handle seeing all of my edits on other people’s blogs with their names taking credit for making them.

So there is a dark side to sharing your art or edits or anything you create online. I know this which is why I prefer to just stick to my own blog and upload my creations or whatever and be thankful that people appreciate them enough to steal 😂I guess that’s really the only way to look at it positively.

So here is my edit for the day – I remember making this one, and it took ages to clean the image up and make it look half decent. I also just realised I didn’t crop it correctly on the left-hand side, but I’m too tired to change it now so I’ll fix it up tomorrow 🤣 Fixed!

Kylo Ren and Rey – Darkside, Lightside, The Glowing side!

I found this beautiful art by Kasiopea on Tumblr and instantly saw this image as two separate images both black and white with a mysterious “glow” around the outside. Don’t ask me why I saw that, that is just what popped into my head! Obviously, the original is perfect and beautiful and awesome, but that is what I saw, so I had to at least try and make it happen.

I wanted to learn this technique for a while after seeing it in action on Tumblr (a lot of people use this technique to make their otherwise dull and bland images or quotes come to life). It’s so simple, I almost cried 😂 (but seriously) – it’s really easy.

I’ll be writing a neat and quick tutorial post about it soon but until then… and here it is in practice:

Luke Skywalker and Rey Black and White Edit

As mentioned in an earlier post, I wanted to try and replicate the style of this image I found on Pinterest by combining two background images together with really eye-catching text over the top.

What I like about the image is the contrast between the black and the white but also the play on words is quite cool as well as you can see the two colours blended together to create grey.

What I came up with is a different play on words using Star Wars text for the theme, but I did something slightly different with the gradient colour because I liked how the colours blended with the text. I also didn’t want the separation between Luke and Rey to be as precise as the other graphic where you can clearly see a break between the two models. I wanted the image of Rey and Luke to blend into each other.

Here’s my first attempt:

BYTHERESOLVINGOFGREY

As you can see, the format is not exactly the same as the original graphic, but I actually like how the gradient effect works with the black, white and grey. I also borrowed the text formatting a little as well the image above as you can see, it’s not centred.

But this is the image I eventually went with after a few minor changes:

The text is taken from the Journal of the Whills:

First comes the day
Then comes the night.
After the darkness
Shines through the light.
The difference, they say,
Is only made right
By the resolving of gray
Through refined Jedi sight.

Luke and Rey Graphic Design Edit

I found some awesome examples of graphic design posters, flyers and images on Pinterest and I saw another one that I want to try and replicate. Obviously there is going to be a lot of editing and transforming involved to get the edit just right. I also went on the hunt for a matching font and while I couldn’t match it exactly, I found one that will do the trick.

This is the original image that I want to use as an example:

And here are the two images I’m going to use for this graphic:

Rey Clean Up Edit – Part 1

I came across this image on Pinterest and could see that someone had tried to cut out the picture of Rey without cleaning up the lettering and other parts of the image, so it looked like it wasn’t very well edited:

Using different techniques and tools in Photoshop, I managed to tidy up the image a bit, what do you think? The first edit looks a little better I think
