Happy Weekend blogging, friends! It’s that time again – a blogging and social media post from yours truly. For anyone who is here solely for the Star Wars content, do not fear! I only post one of these types of posts every few months (sometimes as long as six months apart), and we’ll be returning to our regular programming in my next post!
I haven’t written about this particular Pinterest “trick”, yet so I thought I’d try it out on my Pinterest blog and see whether or not it was a viable method to use in my own social media “marketing”. The name of the game is all about exposure. If you care about the content you’re creating and care about getting your “brand” noticed well, there is no easy way to say this, but you have to put in the work to yield the results.
That means lots of reading and trying things out. So I wondered if this particular Pinterest trick would work for me and decided to integrate it slowly into my social media “strategy”, for lack of a better word. The “trick” is choosing particular pins you’ve already pinned on Pinterest and to re-pin them. And that’s it!
Simple, but is it effective?
I’ve been slowly doing this on all of my social media accounts, gradually choosing images that I’ve pinned before and reposting or pinning them. And after a month or two, this method has yielded mixed results.
On Pinterest, I’ve seen specific images that I re-pinned getting some traction, but nothing close to the interest the pin received after first pinning it. Here is an example of what I mean. This pin below was first posted on October 01 2019, and it has received 367.16k views, 7.1k saves to a board and 468 reactions and comments. This is a reasonably successful pin on my board, so I decided to see what would happen if I re-pinned it.
After re-pinning this pin on 23 August 2021, the pin has had 70.62k views, 117 saves to a board, and 0 comments and reactions.
If I look at the stats for each pin over 30 days, the original pin is still doing better than the repinned image, which really surprised me. And the first pin is out-performing the second pin in every area, including saves to a Pinterest board! You would naturally expect the most recent image to do better but not on Pinterest.
I have started a new pin re-pin with another image, but it is too soon to see the results. I will have to leave it for at least a few months to see whether or not that pin does any better or worse. But the feeling I have from this so far is that on the positive side, the pin with the most views, re-pins and interactions is still doing the rounds on Pinterest and being saved by people. The second pin still managed to get 70k views in less than a month, so I think that’s pretty good, but it is failing considerably in every other metric. I’ll have to leave it up for at least two years to see how it fares then.
Repinning on Instagram has also yielded mixed results, but I’ll save those details for another post another time as we’re focusing on Pinterest for today 😊
