The High Republic – Details of the First Three Books Revealed

The first three ARC’s (advance reader copy) of The High Republic books have now been sent to outlets and media to review. There are three books in The High Republic arc so far;

Light of the Jedi which has been seen pretty much everywhere and is the one most fans are aware of featuring the new Jedi Avar Kriss:

Test of Courage is book II which looks like it might be focused a little more on a younger audience:

And finally the one I am most looking forward to by Star Wars writer Claudia Gray – Into the Dark:

The books do follow in order which means you should probably read them in that order too (due to possible spoilers or story continuation). Into the Dark is set at around the same time that the new Disney Plus series The Acolyte is set which some say is focused on the rise of Darth Plagueis. Looking at the time line it is possible Darth Plagueis was alive at the time of or very close to the end of the High Republic. And as most will know, Darth Plagueis’ now infamous apprentice was Darth Sidious (Sheev Palpatine). I doubt we’ll see the rise of Darth Sidious as that may be too late but Darth Plagueis and Darth Tenebrous were both around at a similar time in the Star Wars time line and as far as I know, they’re both Canon as well.

The article with all book excerpts can be found here if you want to read them.

Will you be reading these books? Let me know!

For anyone interested, here is a Sith time line which was very useful for this article. And I also used information from Wookiepedia.

The New Generation of Lightsabers and Avar Kriss Redesigned!

What do you think of these High Republic Lightsabers?

I find the one in the middle interesting as it looks a lot like Kylo Ren’s am I right? Well, except for the guard across the hilt that is. But still, the influence is there – although it is stated that Kylo Ren copied the design of his lightsaber from a really old design which is partially why it looks so different.

I remember how the world went mental over seeing his lightsaber for the first time. Some loved it, others hated it but I was so happy to see something unique and new, even if it was copied.

And I did see this redesign of Avar Kriss which I like a lot more than the original holding her lightsaber by artist Steven Wayne:

I am not so sure about these new lightsabers but they do look different at least. What do you think?

Will There Ever Be a Continuation of the Skywalker Saga?

I saw a post talking about this via Star Wars Latin America’s website and they even have a video discussing it all and it got me thinking… what if?

Now, I know that Disney said they were going to tie up the Skywalker Saga with the death of Ben Solo and Rey becoming the “Skywalker” to end it all. But do you think Disney will ever reconsider going back to the Skywalker Saga at any point?

We know that the publishing side of Disney has already released details of their plans to focus on the Star Wars universe during the time of the High Republic. That much we know and I’ve blogged about it before.

The issue I have with that is we know Disney’s only concern is making money. I mean let’s face it, they’ve pretty much proven to the world that money is a primary concern for any of their franchises and as a business, that makes sense. But that could also mean that they aren’t at all interested in entertaining the fans which is why I think they decided to wrap up the Skywalker Saga. They knew they couldn’t really build on the sequel trilogy any further so they needed to create a new “brand” within the Star Wars universe for fans to get excited about once more.

The High Republic RULES, right?

Are we really all that excited about The High Republic? I have my reservations. The one thing that the Skywalker Saga has is that everyone knows the characters – and loves them. Building a brand new “saga” for the Star Wars universe means creating characters fans will love and stories fans will be interested in. Are we as fans ready for that?

Should that fail, do you think Disney would reconsider going back to the Skywalker saga at any point?

Let me know in the comments, readers as I am keen to get your point of view on this topic!

Stay safe out there and I’ll catch you in the comments or in tomorrow’s post.

Master Yoda Is Looking for Padawans in Lucasfilm’s the High Republic!

Feel like signing up? Well, I know I do! But seriously, I saw these images of Young Jedi Yoda first via Overly Devoted Archivist, but the images were taken from the Star Wars official website Star Wars dot com.

The concept art itself was created by Iain McCraig, Grant Griffin and Jeff R. Thomas and explores a much younger Yoda. In terms of the star wars timeline, Yoda is about 700 years old in these images. If you recall Yoda’s discussion with Luke in TESB, he had been training Jedi for hundreds of years at that point. So Yoda was already a member of the High Council, and his story will focus on adventures with the Padawan’s that he is charged with training and shaping into Jedi.

How exciting does that sound? It sounds pretty awesome to me! So here’s a question for my readers – if you were alive at this period in the timeline, would you seek out Master Yoda to follow in his footsteps? Would you want to train under one of the most powerful Jedi’s in Galaxy?

That’s a no-brainer, right?

How excited for The High Republic are you? Do you think this Star Wars era will be better than the Skywalker Saga? Why or why not? Let me know in the comments, friends!

First Excerpt From “Light of the Jedi” by Charles Soule

IGN released the very first excerpt from Charles Soule’s upcoming book for The High Republic era titled “Light of the Jedi”.

Here’s a snippet of the text for you:

It is the time of The High Republic: a peaceful union of like-minded worlds where all voices are heard, and governance is achieved through consensus, not coercion or fear. It is a time of ambition, of culture, of inclusion, of Great Works. Visionary Chancellor Lina Soh leads the Republic from the elegant cityworld of Coruscant, located near the bright center of the Galactic Core.

But beyond the Core and its many peaceful Colonies, there is the Rim—Inner, Mid, and finally, at the border of what is known: The Outer Rim. These worlds are filled with opportunity for those brave enough to travel the few well-mapped hyperspace lanes leading to them, though there is danger as well. The Outer Rim is a haven for anyone seeking to escape the laws of the Republic, and is filled with predators of every type.

If you’d like to read the excerpt in its entirety, you may do so here.

Let me know what you think if you’ve read the excerpt, or what you think of the books in general in the comments!
