TRIPLE Force Friday has arrived!

So my relationship with buying Star Wars collectibles is a little patchy at best. Last year I was so unprepared for the Force Friday midnight sales that I missed out on buying the items I wanted. I was actually quite cut up about it and mulled around for days in a low mood. That is why this year I wanted to make sure that I was prepared for the sales. It’s a fierce world out there, people. If you want to collect, you need to bring your ‘A’ game to play with the big boys!

As I write this, I am recovering from a very bad night of almost no sleep and I was feeling a little unwell so I didn’t go to work today. But as soon as I start thinking about Star Wars, I suddenly feel entirely rejuvenated. I think it’s safe to say that Star Wars is in my veins and there is no way it’s ever going to leave.

So last night I managed to get almost everything I wanted including all of the First Edition Black Series release figures!! I am so over the moon about this. I honestly didn’t think of the First Edition stuff but it makes sense because some of those toys will be considered first edition because they’re brand new to the Star Wars franchise. Toys for The Mandalorian, Cal Kestis and the Second Sister from the Star Wars game Jedi Fallen Order – all first edition.

You do not want to know how much money I’ve spent today… it’s probably the most I’ve spent on figures for a long time. I have been patiently waiting for this day for months now and I am so glad it finally paid off.

The only thing is my partner doesn’t know how much I bought or spent yet 🤣 and I am lucky he likes Star Wars and supports my fangirling. I think I’ll be somehow putting this to the test when he sees how many figurines I bought 🤣

Some blog upkeeping for Darksider Confessions

Today I decided that I will be moving the topic of writing and all that entails to a new blog. It’s still with wordpress but I will be separating my writing posts from everything else I do here. Darkside Creative will still be home to all my other creative endeavours such as graphic design, Adobe, and of course, everything relating to Star Wars.

I just feel that this blog really has grown into something more than I expected and in doing so, it has moved slowly away from my first passion which is writing. I haven’t been able to do much with my writing here because I wanted this space to house my Star Wars experiences and everything I do with art. I just don’t think writing has a place here any more.

So if you wish to follow my writing blog, you can do so here –

That’s all I really have to say about that. I’ll understand if you unfollow me.

I have a whole heap of Star Wars edits and graphics to post which I’ll do bit by bit starting tomorrow.

Yoda and Anakin discuss the future and a post for Padme – Star Wars is Poetry

Star Wars is Poetry is now in full swing with an amazing 17 followers! I am actually quite serious when I say it’s amazing. I’ve only had this account for a few days, and people have already followed it which I honestly thought would take a lot longer. I am not really advertising it anywhere other than Pinterest and here so I’m really happy with this progress.

I have made two posts in the last couple of days, both from the prequel trilogy films. I am actually really enjoying creating these posts, even more than I thought I would. I like being able to blend imagery with words where the words are the main focus rather than the art or image. I also like adding my own point of view on the topic of the post which I don’t do on my Star Wars art account. This way I get to flesh out the concepts or theory behind the post or the scene or the plot or characters.

Yoda’s discussion with Anakin about attachment and letting go:

And Padme Amidala finally admitting her love for Anakin (as doomed as it was) sniff ☹️

I’ve started a new IG account – starwarsispoetry is born!

I’ve wanted to create an IG account for Star War is Poetry for the longest time but I wasn’t too sure how I’d go about it. What I want to do is celebrate the words and literature of the Star Wars universe using words and images (but mostly words as it is an account dedicated to the written word).

So I made this clip for my blog:

And it’s so much easier to manage through the IG app on my phone now that you can use one primary IG account to access all of your IG accounts.

I spent some time creating this template which I want to use for all my posts:

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Poster – Animated Edition

I really feel like I’m back to being myself again, and I can barely contain my energy to create things. So far in one and a half days I’ve managed to write another article for Dork Side of the Force which is ready for publishing, created one image edit and two animated edits. I also felt randomly inspired and wrote a poem while I was out at the mall earlier today, and I’ve got two short stories on the go at once, one is very much a fan-fic and the other I think I could flesh out into an actual story.

As time’s gone by, I’ve learned to cherish the days when I feel energetic and creative. If there’s one thing being a writer and creative person has taught me, it’s to count the days you have to create as precious. You won’t feel that way every day, so it’s good to try and remember that, it’s good for me and my process anyway.

So here’s my first animation from a newly released star wars fan-made poster with art by phase_runner. This animation took me longer than expected, but I was pleased with the result, and the art is just stunning.

Writing – Progress is slow but article two is now up!

I’ve discovered that going back to writing for someone other than myself again is not as easy as I thought it would be. I’ve also found that if I want my work to stand out, I have to have my finger on the pulse of the Star Wars community because there are a lot and I mean A LOT of writers writing about the same thing. So far I’m up to my second article which you can see here if you’re interested. I decided to write about The Dark Side book I bought last year because I don’t think many star wars fans actually have it or know about it.

So now I spend quite a lot of my spare time thinking of ideas to write for the site that isn’t being written by other contributors. Not an easy task when you’re trying to make an impression. One other thing that I’ve found is working a full-time job and then writing on top of that is also not as easy I expected it would be. I find myself looking for the right time to write and get my ideas together. It’s not as easy as it was when I had all the time in the world to formulate articles and blog posts when I was a full-time freelancer. Now, it seems every minute of my time needs to be used wisely.

I’m not going to concern myself with page views or hit counters or even dollar signs because I know that once I do that, I’ll obsess over those things and I don’t want to do that at all. I’m also still trying to fight this horrible winter flu that I’ve had since last week. I did take time off work to try and recover, but this virus is really stubborn, and my sore throat and cough still haven’t subsided. I may need to visit the doctor and get some antibiotics since I don’t think my body is fighting it well enough on its own.

On the up-side, can you believe it’s only FOUR months and 22 days until The Rise of Skywalker releases? Where has all the time gone, am I right?

I’ve finished my first article!

I promised I would continue to blog here about my experiences as a writer and what it’s been like getting back into the “saddle” again, so-to-speak. I’m not going to lie, it has actually been both exciting and a little harrowing. It’s been a good long while since I’ve had to write for someone else and make it matter. I suppose you can say that if you’re not writing this way all of the time, you’re selling yourself short and being a lazy writer. Well, I think I’ve been all of those things and then some and now I have to get my crap together and prove I can actually write.

Do you know how daunting that is? I’m a little dramatic, I know, it’s not like it’s Time Magazine or anything, but as I said, it’s been a while, and I feel very very rusty. I’ve submitted my first article and the topic wasn’t anything fantastic, just something I’ve wanted to write about for some time. I’ll link to it once it’s proofed and ready for the world.

The one thing I don’t want to do is get bogged down in worrying about page views. I just want to write, for now, that’s all I really want to do. The money isn’t even a thing, it’s a nice incentive to help me focus on creating good content, but it’s not what drives me, and it never has been.

My love is for the craft itself, to some that may sound strange, but that’s always been the reason behind why I write, and it hasn’t changed yet.

Also, I’m up to my third chapter in my story and I actually feel good enough to post some of it here, so I’ll do that next post.
