Social Media was on fire yesterday with the news that Gina Carano who portrays Cara Dune in The Mandalorian has been fired by Lucasfilm for her antisemitic Twitter comments.
I won’t be posting what she said on her Twitter feed, but you can find it via Google if you look it up. An article in the Hollywood reporter also confirmed the actress has been dropped by her agency UTA:
Just to be clear, she did not get fired for having controversial political views. She was fired for comments she made comparing her plight as a conservative in America to that of the Jewish people during the Nazi occupation in World War II. Having a difference of opinion is accepted on social media (well, mostly) but making antisemitic comments is not.
Some fans have come to her defence by saying that she was practising her right as an American to free speech. But others are angered by her comments about Jews specifically.
I think you always need to be guarded on social media in general and pay attention to what you say. That’s just a given for anyone using social media. For someone like Gina, who is a celebrity and has all eyes on her due to this, it’s impossible to say anything without people taking sides and pointing fingers at you. The pressure must be enormous. However, Gina really did cross the line, I think. She should have sat on her comments for an hour or two before posting.
I wonder if Twitter will do anything about her profile now as she must be one of the most disliked celebrities on their platform.
What do you think of this? Have a difference in opinion? Let me know in the comments friends!
Catch you there or in tomorrow’s post and as always much 💜💜💜 to you all and stay safe out there!
It’s really too bad this happened, but she should have known better. I don’t condone or agree with her statements at all, but as a celebrity of her stature, she has to realize that millions of people are reading her tweets and such, and she can’t just say anything she wants. Maybe it’s not fair, but it’s the way it is.

Oh thanks, I’ll check him out. I’d love to do a collab, but maybe not for a bit. I’ve got some health stuff going on and may not have the time. Everything’s okay, I just may need some surgery soon to deal with something. I’ll keep you informed. And yeah, I’d love to do some High Republic stuff sometime!

Oh no 😦 I hope it’s nothing serious 😦 I did notice you hadn’t been posting in a while. Just take the time you need, plenty of rest and get back to blogging when you feel like it 🙂 I’ll still be here lol and we can collab any time you’re ready 🙂

Thank you! This past week I was afraid it was serious–yikes, do I have breast cancer???–so I couldn’t focus. Turns out I don’t, but I may have to have surgery to get rid of some suspicious tissue that MIGHT turn into cancer. I see the surgeon next week, so we’ll see what happens. In the meantime, I’ll be catching up with the blogging a little bit, but we’ll postpone the collab for now, as I don’t know the timeline for anything. But thank you for being concerned and checking in on me, I appreciate that!

I no longer follow the news, so I had no idea this happened. But let’s face it – her getting fired is her making her point. She is exactly right. We see it in every aspect of life today – republicans, people agreeing with Donald Trump – getting beat up, getting fired, getting cancelled (See Mike Lindell and Bed, Bath and Beyond) . The sad part is that while democrats, liberals and anyone with any amount of TDS are the ones calling republicans Nazis, but in truth, they are the ones who are. For anyone – for their political opinions or anything else to be fired for a Tweet or comment on any other aspect of social media, is wrong. Whether it’s something they said yesterday or 10 years ago. People should be able to share their opinions without fear of backlash. That’s the 1st amendment.

Oh yeah, I agree that people should be able to speak as freely as they want. We don’t have the first amendment in my country but I think she posted that analogy in haste and maybe in the heat of the moment without thinking it might hurt people who actually had family members involved in the war or even died at the hands of the Nazi’s. I don’t think the issue is with the fact that she said those things openly. The problem some people have on Twitter is that she chose to use a part of world history that affects a lot of people. I don’t know a thing about American politics either so forgive my ignorance, but I highly doubt that Republicans are getting gassed or pulled out of their homes and killed for supporting Trump. Like you I avoid the news for the most part but if this has happened somewhere, I don’t know about it 🙂

No, Julie, They aren’t and didn’t get gassed. But they have gotten beaten up. They have been kicked out of restaurants and attacked by cars. Republicans have been shunned by friends and families for their views. So, no, not in the literal sense of being treated like Jews and being gassed. That has not happened. But absolutely it has in the metaphorical sense.

Okay, well I guess to some people that isn’t really enough of a reason to use that horrible part of our world history as a comparison. And some people (well, a lot of people) found it offensive. Perhaps she could have thought about what she was posting before she did it? I get what you’re saying and I agree with you on that – I am not disagreeing with your point of view. I think Gina didn’t think long enough to be concerned about what she was using as a comparison. Anyway, I guess things worked out for her in the end because she now works for dailywire.com.

Those same people who don’t like the comparison are the same people who called Trump Nazi. We can leave it there.

Trump still incited violence and from what I read about the storming of capitol hill, some people died, right? Blood on someone’s hands is still blood. He didn’t kill millions of Jews but he was indirectly responsible for people dying. I think now we can leave it there. Thanks for dropping by 🙂

That’s such a bad argument. Once again, to be debating this with someone who doesn’t even live in America is silly. Did liberal leaders incite when they told people to get in faces of Republicans and confront them? Or that they wanted to attack the White House? So please, just stop.
