PiXimperfect Tutorial – Create Light Rays in three Simple Steps with Photoshop

I’ve recently discovered a new Photoshop channel on YouTube, and it’s actually amazing. The host is one of a kind, and his tutorials are so unique and refreshing. I imagine tutoring would be a daunting task even for the most dedicated and talented artists, but Unmesh Dinda makes it look so effortless, and his approach and charm makes it easy to follow along.

The tutorials aren’t separated by difficulty level because Unmesh’s tutorials are designed for basically anyone to learn, even beginners. And I think this is one of the best things about his channel. I put this to the test by taking on the following tutorial, and I am pretty much sold so expect to see a lot more of Unmesh’s tutorials on my blog in future.

How to create Light Rays in three Simple Steps with Photoshop

The object of this tutorial is to learn how to turn a rather dull image of sunlight in a forest into something worthy of a thousand likes on Instagram (if that’s your thing). Who doesn’t want people loving their pics? And the great thing about this tutorial is you can apply these techniques to any image using different filters such as Color Dodge and blur filters such as Radial Blur. I will definitely be using this technique in other photos!

Time: 15 – 20 minutes

Level: Any

Comment: I think Unmesh Dinda is the original Guru of Photoshop and I don’t say that lightly. If you follow along with any of his tutorials, you will see exactly why he has more than a million followers on his channel. He is basically a Photoshop genius. All example assets are provided as well, which is, really awesome.

Rating: 10/10 – PERFECT RATING

Note: These images are very high quality 6000 x 4000. Here is the before:

And here is my edit after applying Unmesh’s techniques. Pretty cool, right?

Fantasy Sci-Fi Animation – Edit A Day

I liked this image so much that I decided to animate it and see what it looked like and I have to say, it doesn’t look too shabby as an animated image:

Design Tuts Plus Tutorial – Fantasy Sci Fi Photo Manip Tutorial Review

So as mentioned in an earlier post, I wanted to show you how far I had come on my first Photo Manipulation image. I have not used half the tools I had to use in Photoshop to create the picture, which is why it took me a lot longer than it would someone who already had prior knowledge of these tools. You could say this was a good learning curve for me, and it was steep, but I think I got over it, OK.

The artist who created this image is a digital artist who writes tutorials for a lot of the more prominent Photoshop tutorial websites. Here is her DeviantArt webpage if you’re interested. Her work is just sublime as you can see here:

I decided to take on this project, not knowing just how involved it can be to create a photo manipulation of this type. There are a lot, and I do mean a LOT of steps to get to the end of it, but it’s so worth it if you’re learning as you go, which I definitely am.

So for anyone that hasn’t seen it, here is my photomanip:

And here is my write-up about the tutorial:

Fantasy Sci Fi Portrait Photo Manip #1 is almost done

So I am going to come right out and say that I know I didn’t update with an edit yesterday and that is because I have spent way too much time trying to perfect this Warp tool technique.

I am going to show you an unfinished edit that I’ve been working on, and while it may not look like much right now, it’s a lot more involved than the other pieces I’ve been creating lately.

I am going to turn this:

Into something that looks like this:

lady-final

My current image looks quite different from this one, and there are several reasons for that because the tutorial is two years old, and half the assets used are no longer available! So I had to improvise.

Here’s a little peek of what I’ve done so far. As you can see the background image is very different from the one in the pic above, but I actually love this process. I am almost done, and the finished manip will be up tomorrow with the tutorial details.

Inside Photoshop Part V – Actions, Actions, Actions!

In an effort to keep to my promise of “an edit a day” I spent time looking through various websites that talk about different photo manipulation techniques. One of the best I’ve found is using Photoshop Actions to manipulate images and make them look gorgeous! There are thousands of photoshop actions online, and a lot of them are free if you know where to look.

Here is my next edit using a photoshop action I fell in love with straightaway and hopefully, you’ll see why I love it so much.

Original image – there is just something I love about this image of Rey and I can’t put my finger on what it is, I just love it to bits 🙂
