SWCU – The Book of Boba Fett S01 Ep01 Review

🛑‼️THIS REVIEW IS NOT SPOILER FREE. PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS🛑‼️

So the first episode of the long-awaited BoBF has arrived and I’ve decided to review it each week. The first episode is kind of what we expected and answers a question so many fans wanted an answer for: HOW did Boba Fett survive the Sarlacc pit? It was amazing seeing him inside the Sarlacc and literally clawing his way out. Here’s a little Sarlacc factoid for you – did you know that it can take a thousand years to be digested by a Sarlacc? According to Jabba the Hutt, the Sarlacc can take up to 1000 years to digest you and the experience is one of indescribable pain!

So it’s not at all surprising that Boba would fight tooth and nail to get out of the Sarlacc. And we know that had to happen otherwise there would be no Book of Boba Fett 😅

We also get flashbacks to what happened to Boba after his escape from the Sarlacc. Again, it’s not that surprising that he ended up running into Jawas and finally Sand People (otherwise known as Tusken Raiders). We already knew that Cobb Vanth had his armour and he got it from Jawas who trade in basically anything. That sort of ties things up quite nicely.

Once Boba is out and he’s claimed Jabba’s throne, Fennec Shand starts working her way through the random denizens of Tatooine who have come to pay tribute to Boba. This is a little weird but it makes sense given Jabba’s way of doing things. I guess it’s smart to try and follow similar patterns to Jabba. But Boba has other ideas; he doesn’t want to rule with fear but with respect.

I’m not too sure Boba would do that, to be honest. We can take into account that coming so close to death might have changed Boba. I’m still clinging onto the old school Boba who was a man of action and mostly just killing things. But it seems this version of Boba isn’t as ruthless as he once was.

Despite the show featuring a few entertaining action sequences between Boba, Fennec Shand and various other characters, there wasn’t all that much to see in the first episode. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was boring, because it definitely wasn’t. I do think that as a first episode, you can tell that Robert Rodriguez is purposefully holding back (which again, we’ve been told that is the case by Robert Rodriguez himself in interviews).

That gives me a huge rush of excitement because it means that whatever they’ve got in store for us and for Boba is going to be amazing! Perhaps it could even be monumental in the telling and shaping of the new Boba Fett.

What did you think of the first episode? Let me know in the comments where I’ll be hanging out!
