Black Mirror Edit – The National Anthem

After watching Black Mirror again (it was some years ago when I first watched it) I felt really inspired to try my hand at another composite image. My goal is to get skilled enough to eventually make my own posters. This was always my goal and why I wanted to learn Graphic Design. I am quite a distance away from that goal, but edging ever closer.

I came up with the idea in the most random way, which is why I really wanted to try it. If you haven’t seen Black Mirror Season 1 Episode 1, you probably won’t understand the story behind the image and I’m not one to spoil things. If you’re interested in what Black Mirror is, here is the description in the writer’s words, Charlie Brooker:

If technology is a drug – and it does feel like a drug – then what, precisely, are the side effects? This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The ‘black mirror’ of the title is the one you’ll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone.[5]

So here is my composite image, it’s the first one I’ve done for myself, really. Everything else has mostly been practice or Star Wars related so I was ready to do something different:

I used stock images (getting into the habit of not using copyrighted images) for the main composite and Photoshop editing for the rest. I liked how the image of 10 Downing Street looks painted and surreal (this effect is awesome to create in photoshop) and the Pig is the opposite – the contrast between the two images is exactly what I wanted to create so I am happy with how it turned out.
