DAY #3 – Your Favourite Quote

You’d think that a favourite quote would be a relatively simple thing to know but it’s actually a pretty difficult thing for me to blog about. The main reason for this is that I have heard so many great quotes over the years that are worthy of remembering.  There’s also this memory I have of reading something online some time ago about people using quotes and being shallow or something similar, like using quotes in your writing is  a bad thing.

But I guess if I had to choose just one quote that I’ve either remembered or lived by out of the dozens of qutoes I’ve read, it would have to be one from the bible;

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”

To clarify, I am not baptised (although my Mother is Roman Catholic) and not a practicing Christian as in I do not attend Church or practice any particular faith. But this quote is one that I have remembered time and time again as I got older and it’s one that has stuck with me since I was a wee little tyke in Sunday school.

A little history on this very famous quote, I also remember being told by my Sunday school teacher (and others for that matter), that this rule is the one above all others, “The Golden Rule”

The “Golden Rule” was given by Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 7:12 NCV, see also Luke 6:31). The common English phrasing is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. A similar form of the phrase appeared in a Catholic catechism around 1567 (certainly in the reprint of 1583).
